I came to this understanding through my own failings in both teaching and learning. Specifically, teaching my daughter programming and trying to learn Haskell.

She asked me great questions that I couldn’t readily answer. I knew why, but couldn’t explain it. I realized my expertise was holding me back.

In trying to learn Haskell programming, I was learning from experts, mainly math experts who forgot what is was like not to understand what a Monad is.
